Exploiting Fluoropolymers Immiscibility to Tune Surface Properties and Mass Transfer in Blend Membranes for Membrane Contactor Applications, by C. Meringolo, T. Poerio, E. Fontananova, T. F. Mastropietro, F. P. Nicoletta, G. De Filpo, E. Curcio, and G. Di Profio.
Polyvinylidene fluoride-co-hexafluoropropylene and polyvinylidene fluoride blend membranes, with interconnected channels decorated with polymer crystallites, were produced by a two-step phase separation technique, using nontoxic solvents and without any chemical additive as pore forming. Solvent-mediated interactions between nanostructures: From water to Lennard-Jones liquid, by J. Lam & J. F. Lutsko .
A direct comparison of solvent-mediated forces obtained from molecular dynamics simulations of water, and DFT calculations of LJ using a very generic system made of two nanometric crystalline slabs immersed in a liquid, has been made. DOI: 10.1063/1.5037571

AMECRYS Project promoted during the European Researchers’ Night 2018 (ERN2018), held on 28-29 September 2018 in 27 European countries and beyond. Researchers of the CNR-ITM and UCAL engaging the audience by illustrating the basic techniques in membrane preparation and explaining general objectives, main activities and principal expected benefits of the project. Tailoring PVDF Membranes Surface Topography and Hydrophobicity by a Sustainable Two-Steps Phase Separation Process,

A sustainable method to produce porous polymeric PVDF membranes with engineered surface features and without using SVHC solvents is proposed.

A new AMECRYS’s paper published on “Nanoscale” journal (The Royal Society of Chemistry, i.f. 7.367): Lattice induced crystallization of nanodroplets: the role of finite-size effects and substrate properties in controlling polymorphism,

by J. Lam & J. F. Lutsko.
Computer simulations of the crystallization of nanoscale droplets deposited on a solid substrate show that the resulting crystal structure is controlled by the lattice spacing of the substrate.

Results from the AMECRYS Project were presented at the event “Downstream process development of next generation challenging proteins”, organized by The Knowledge Transfer Network (KTN), in partnership with GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) and GE Healthcare Life Sciences (GE), held at the GlaxoSmithKline Medicines Research Centre in Stevenage (UK) on the January 30 2018. The following presentation was delivered by  FujiFilm Diosynth Biotechnologies (FDB) researchers: Incorporation of High Throughput Resin Screening Strategies for Rapid Development of a Robust Purification Method of a Model VH Domain Antibody Fragment, by James Pullen.
